About

I am a native of Bakersfield, CA, and moved to San Diego to study Biomechanical Engineering, a program and career path not available locally. I also relocated with the intention of advancing my career in the medical device industry, acquiring skills relevant to the broader job market, and gaining experience in cross-functional projects. I believe I have done so successfully and then some by upskilling post-graduation.

I am open to opportunities on both the East Coast and West Coast, having traveled extensively around the country, both recently and in my youth.

Regarding my experience post-graduation (as visible on my resume and in my projects section), it encompasses design quality documentation, rapid prototyping, static testing, and verification and validation (V&V). This was done intentionally to align with my design philosophy, as I believe it will effectively guide my future results.

With respect to my interest in working in the medical device industry, particularly in the spine and orthopedic markets, as an engineer, I am drawn to this prospect because it aligns me closely with my purpose of serving others. I am interested in enhancing post-operative outcomes and making a tangible difference in patients' lives through work on implants and instrumentation in the medical device industry. Furthermore, I believe that working in the spine market, in particular, provides engineers with the most opportunity to make a difference in helping patients, given the magnitude of the spine in preserving and restoring motion for every person. Furthermore, when I was 12 years old, I suffered a hairline fracture on my left ankle and could not walk for months due to it after a failed first attempt at rollerblading. Thankfully, I did not need plating (I only needed a natural solution), but it paved the way for me to want to help restore motion to others, as I know what it feels like to temporarily lose it.

However, I know I have much to learn as each case and project is unique. I believe I have prepared for this industry, not only through the engineering work I have done on my CTLS venture, but also through upskilling via new certifications, research, note-taking, and becoming well-versed in the technical standards and industry trends in medical devices and orthopedics. This is where my design philosophy originates from (applying regulatory and quality constraints first), and I aim to continue using it throughout my career.

  • Earlier this year (4/25), I shadowed a live hybrid surgery, involving the implantation of the Abbott HeartMate 3 LVAD, alongside a stent deployment in the patient.

  • This was an excellent experience for me and allowed me to understand further a surgeon's (clinical) workflow, how to communicate a product (Abbott's live RPM Data) with a surgeon in real-time, as well as a real-life device use case at a high level moving forward in my career.

  • I also understand how to navigate professional environments successfully and the variety of manufacturing methods that exist within them, having been on-site at several manufacturing facilities this past year and met with all levels of an organization, whether that be upper management or technicians. I want to meet people where they are. I believe in humility, and for me, that means providing leadership both vocally and by example. I am approachable and easy to work with, and above all, I want to bring positivity into and outside the workplace.

  • These experiences, in tandem with new projects and certifications added to my profile, demonstrate that I have been continually upskilling both my hard and soft skills for the organization I work for next.
